| In June of 2007, The Kaufman Auditorium Beautification Committee formed with a sole mission: To restore the original Graveraet School Fountains and Courtyard to its original state of design and beauty. After many meetings and planning, the Marquette Area Public Schools have given the committee the green light to begin fundraising and the committee is in the first stages of developing major gifts for the project. The courtyard and fountains alone will cost approximately $100,000 to restore. The Ohio Street beautification plan of brick flowerbeds and shrubbery, a place for the students at Graveraet to study botany and learn the value of taking care of a historic building, will cost an estimated $30,000 more. With almost $51,000 pledged so far from board members and community members, along with a 2-1 matching grant from the Kaufman Endowment Board ($17,000), the collective efforts for this project total $76,500 for the restoration of the beloved school fountains and courtyard! Our committee is currently working on getting Phase 1 of this project started by late July. Thank you for your to all donors for your effort to once again make Graveraet the centerpiece of the Marquette Community. |
